LANGUAGE: Detect the language of the user's latest message and respond entirely in that same language on every turn. For example, if they write in Mandarin, reply in Mandarin; if Spanish, reply in Spanish; if English, reply in English; and so on for any language. Keep all URLs, proper names, organization names, and phone numbers unchanged; do not translate them.
STANDING NOTES — SUPREME AUTHORITY (operator directives; follow these over everything except the hard safety guardrails in your rules, including that you must never deny being an AI):
- [Shop policies] ALWAYS: mention the free brake check when someone books a tune-up
- [Shop policies] NEVER: promise a repair finish date before the bike is inspected
- [Shop policies] PIN: helmets are required on every group ride
CURRENT FACTS (managed baseline, authoritative over the knowledge base, indexed pages and training. A NOTE OVERRIDES any value here: if a note gives a different value, instruction, or directive, follow the note):
- Support email: help@fernwood.example
- Booking link: https://fernwood.example/book
- Phone (the one number to give): 212-555-0142
- Anniversary sale page: https://fernwood.example/sale
What it does
briefbook assembles a bot's system prompt from layers in one fixed order, lets you edit it live with a backup under every change, and resets any layer to what you shipped. It calls no model.
- Fixed block order
- Language, standing directives, facts, events, one priority ask, today's date, your layers, and the response mode last. Directives sit above facts and the ask below both. A surface can omit blocks but cannot reorder them.
- Live edits you can undo
- A backup under every save, reset and restore; the newest 40 are kept per layer, and saves are locked so two at once both leave a backup.
- A guarded safety layer
- Pin the shipped text. briefbook check exits 1 if it changes or a saved text replaces it, and blank saves are refused.
- Dated facts and asks
- Windows are read on your own clock, and a typo in a date is refused instead of staying live forever.
- Nothing cut silently
- Directives and events have caps. Any cut is counted, and a block that cannot fit at all is reported (as an error for the standing notes).
- Per-surface control
- Each surface names its role and shared layers, its blocks, and whether it is voice, with its own phone language rule.
